Betterer Lieutenant - The Search for Harvey’s Gold
I hated the original Bad Lieutenant, despite it being one of the better full-frontal Harvey Keitel nudity vehicles of the 90s. When I heard it was being remade, I let out the finely honed groan of the cineast - the one I’ve developed to convey an affront to my good taste. Upon learning that the new version would star Nicholas Cage my apathy continued more-or-less unabated. Oh and by the way it’s full title is Bad Lieutenant - Port of Call New Orleans.
Yep.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably thinking, “Well… that sounds… crappy”. Believe me, I was right there with you until I had the good fortune to speak to my friend Aaron, who informed me that it was less a remake or sequel, than a re-imagining of the original Bad Lieutenant concept. Furthermore, this re-imaging was being helmed by Werner Herzog - so that’s kinda cool. Lastly though, I was to learn that the trailer ends with Cage delivering the best closing line of a trailer in recent memory, “Shoot him again… his soul’s still dancing”.
I am now of the opinion that this may very well end up being the best film ever! If this sounds like a lot of hype… well it may very well be. But the trailer is online now, so you can see for yourself.
